NATIONAL rally champion Christakis Fitidis finished eighth in yesterday’s 5.30km super special stage of the KCB Uganda Pearl rally in Lubiri.
Fitidis who was flagged off in ninth place, in a Subaru Impreza N12, cruised to eighth position in three minutes and 54 seconds.
He was 21 seconds behind stage winner Jas Mangat who drove under a Kenyan license. Mangat clocked three minutes and 33 seconds.
The Ugandan duo of Ronald Ssebuguzi and Wycliffe Bukenya finished second and third respectively while reigning African rally champion Jamie Whyte from Zimbabwe finished fourth.
Burundi’s Alain Dethise also secured a place in the top ten after clocking three minutes and fifty seven seconds.
Ponsiano Lwakataka and Charles Muhangi finished outside the top ten.
Fitidis will embark on a 138.22km competitive distance today and further a 69.11km on Sunday.
The race which is the fifth round of the Africa Rally Championship has attracted 21 crews from Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Madagascar and Zimbabwe.
KCB are the main sponsors with a package of $50,000.
