Despite playing in a strange environment, St. Joseph Kabgayi strolled to a 24-8 win over Apred Ndera to win this year’s National Schools’ rugby league that ended last Sunday at Croix Rouge.

With their good kicking exploits, fast game and depth, the Muhanga based side repeatedly tore apart Ndera’s backline.

After the final, one of the local rugby federation (RRF) top officials Gerard Nsenga was vividly ecstatic about the quality of play from the two schools and predicted a bright future for Rwanda’s rugby.

"From yesterday’s final, it is very clear that the level of rugby in schools has improved,” he said.   The two-month’s league that attracted twelve schools was jointly organized and bankrolled by the local federation and Friends of Rwanda Rugby (FoRR), a UK-based charity.

Meanwhile, the National University of Rwanda side, Grizzlies dictated proceedings in the Inter-university competition that were staged at the same venue.

Grizzlies downed Ruhengeri’s ISAE 27-7 before suffocating Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) 33-0. ISAE claimed second spot after an 8-0 victory over KIST.
