KIGALI - The newly appointed Work Force Development Authority Director General has promised to work closely with the relevant stakeholders to achieve the institution’s goals.

Jerome Gasana, made the remarks yesterday as he received the leadership mantle from his predecessor, Albert Nsengiyumva, now the Infrastructure Minister.

"I will continue where my predecessor ended and work hand in hand with development partners and stakeholders towards delivering better results to the people and the country,” he said.

Gasana added that he would strive to ensure that WDA reaches every corner of the country in terms of providing vocational education training to all Rwandans.

He called upon his staff, the government and development partners to embrace teamwork to enable him execute his duties efficiently.

Nsengiyumva urged his successor to empower the institution’s staff to ensure that they deliver according to expectations.

"As a young institution, WDA won’t be able to achieve its mission without developing a strong partnership with a number of stakeholders,” he noted.

"I am still part of you and I will continue supporting you, in an advisory capacity so that you achieve the institution’s goals,” Nsengiyumva told his successor.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Education, Pierre Damien Habumuremyi, urged the incoming WDA Director General to consider Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) as a ray of hope among Rwandans.

"Be innovative and set a target where by 50 percent of students from the Nine Year Basic Education (9YBE) enroll into TVET,” he added.

Habumuremyi called upon the new WDA boss to carry out an awareness campaign of TVET programs, adding that his predecessor did a great job in propping up the institution.
