Editor,

I was impressed by a story that appeared in yesterday’s issue of The New Times regarding the Institute of National Museums of Rwanda (INMR), calling upon Rwandans to conserve and safeguard the country’s cultural and historical objects.

I couldn’t agree more.  Museums hold a lot of historical information about Rwanda and its people,  what it went through from pre-colonial times to the colonial times and post-independence.

It is therefore important that we visit our museums to obtain this priceless information and knowledge.

It is very ironic that foreigners in form of tourists come and visit these places, get back to their countries  with abundant knowledge which we Rwandans have denied ourselves, yet such facilities are within our vicinity.

It is up to parents and schools to organise trips to the museums if our children are to grow up knowing their own history. It is time every Rwandan woke up to this reality. This is our culture. It is our history.
