MUSANZE - Sixty Members of Parliament and Senators registered as members of the AMANI Forum Rwanda will, tomorrow, set off for Musanze District where they will participate in a three-day training on conflict management.

According to the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Denis Polisi, the training comes as follow up.

"In 2000, members of the AMANI Forum Rwanda acquired skills on how a conflict starts, how it can be managed as well as how it can be ended.

However, since then, there are new members who joined the Forum but never acquired these skills, this is why we are conducting a similar training,” Polisi said.

He added that the Musanze training lies within the scope of the first pillar of AMANI Forum strategy which is to build the capacity of parliamentarians and equip them with skills in managing conflicta.

Traditionally, issues of peace, security and diplomacy were reserved only for the executive arm of government while Parliamentarians were limited to legislative techniques, Polisi said.

"This mainly aimed ensuring that lawmakers have the necessary skills to intervene and end a conflict anywhere in the region,” Polisi said.

Several experts will share their knowledge with the MPs during the training. Among them is Dr. Nasson Munyandamutsa who will speak on the concept, genesis and outbreak of a conflict.

The Executive Secretary of the Rwanda Governance Advisory Council, Prof. Anastase Shyaka is expected to address lawmakers on prevention, management and resolution of conflicts.

AMANI Forum is the Great Lakes Parliamentary Forum on Peace. It has seven national branches that include Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia as well as the East African Legislative Assembly.
