Peace Mbabazi was elected the chairperson of the NWC committee that will represent women at the sector and district level for the next five-year mandate.
In her acceptance speech, she thanked her predecessor for the crucial role played in promoting women’s welfare in the district.
"There have been tremendous steps taken in developing and changing women’s welfare in the district. I promise to cement the good steps that were taken by the outgoing committee,” Mbabazi said.
The Chairperson vowed to mobilise more women in the district to engage in income generating activities. She also promised to interest women to work with micro-finance institutions in order to get rid of poverty.
The outgoing women’s leader, Keith Abahara challenged the new committee to encourage women to join cooperatives.
One of the women council members in the district, Juliette Candari, lauded achievements made by women in the district and appealed to the new committee to lead them in meeting all set targets.
