Veterinary officials in Musanze District, Monday, killed over 100 stray dogs after three people were bitten in separate incidents.
According to the Musanze District Veterinary Officer, Dr. Jean Bosco Nsengiyunva, the move was aimed preventing dog attacks on the people and the spread of rabies.
"We ask everyone owning a dog to take responsibility; we vaccinate domestic animals especially dogs and cats for free. This problem of stray dogs has to stop,’’ he urged.
Nsengiyunva appealed to the residents to ensure proper management of dogs and vaccinate them to avoid the risks they may cause especially at night.
The wandering dogs from different sectors were killed using poison.
"People have also been complaining about the threat caused by dogs to other domestic animals like rabbits, sheep, and cows,’’ he added.
He said the victims of dog bites were residents of the three sectors of Muhoza, Remera and Shingiro.
