As the countdown for the Primus Guma Guma Superstar (PGGSS) finale heats up, many Rwandans anxiously wait to witness another exciting moment.

Last Saturday, lights dimmed on three artistes when they were eliminated from the music competition. Faycal, Dr. Claude and Mani Martin are the first contestants to be eliminated from the competition.

However, when all was said and done, the three artistes gave it their best on stage as they kept the crowd enthralled during a function held in Gikondo.

With four spots in the Primus Guma Guma Superstar competition, and only seven contestants securing their positions, only four have to battle it out for the jackpot.

Tom Close, Dream Boyz, Urban Boyz, Rafiki, J-Polly, Riderman and King James will grace the stage on Saturday, July 16, for what would be a do or die affair when another three contenders will be shown the door.

Speaking to The New Times, Mani Martin said that it was unfair for Bralirwa to choose the SMS voting process. He noted that the organising committee should have hired a panel of professional music experts to choose the winner.

"It has never happened anywhere, not even in America or Europe, that the best artiste in a competition is selected basing only on SMS voting,” Mani Martin said.

"Even though I was ready for anything – after all I was already an established musician even before I joined Primus Guma Guma Superstar – but the system used in this competition is not fair enough,” he noted.

Martin added: "Maybe Bralirwa is looking for the most popular artiste not the most talented one and that’s why the company chose the public to decide the best artiste, instead of using music experts who would judge us basing on the talent.”

On the other hand, Dr Claude who seemed untouched by the elimination, said: "I didn’t know what the public considered to eliminate me, but what I know is that I am a talented musician. I am also happy with the fact that the winner will be a Rwandan artiste,” he said.

The winner will walk away with the grand prize of Rwf6 million and record a song and video alongside Jamaican-American heart-throb Sean Kingston.
