Karate team finishes second in Zone V tourney

THE technical director of the national karate federation Guy Rurangayire has lauded the team following a second place finish in the Zone V championship which climaxed on Saturday in Nairobi, Kenya. Rwanda won silver in the men’s Kumite and Kata categories, while Olive Mukagatare won gold in the women’s Kumite category.

THE technical director of the national karate federation Guy Rurangayire has lauded the team following a second place finish in the Zone V championship which climaxed on Saturday in Nairobi, Kenya.

Rwanda won silver in the men’s Kumite and Kata categories, while Olive Mukagatare won gold in the women’s Kumite category.

Vincent Munyeshaka scooped the country’s second gold in the U/75 kg kata, while Haruna Sibomana settled for bronze in the U/84 kg Kumite category.

Rurangayire says that the performance reflects the development of the sport in the country.

"We took a relatively small team but still managed to finish second which is testament of the growth of the sport,” he said.

Burundi won the tourney while hosts Kenya settled for third place.
