Five people sustained injuries when the vehicle they were travelling in lost control and rammed into a stationary road construction tractor.

The incident took place, Monday morning, along the Rulindo-Musanze road.

According to eyewitnesses, the Toyota Coaster van was heading to Musanze from Kigali.

Rulindo District Police Commander, Fred Ndoli, said one passenger was severely injured while four others were treated at a nearby clinic and discharged.

Ndoli added that due to many sharp corners along the road, such accidents are common.

"As police, we are doing our best to reduce such accidents. We have launched a sensitisation campaign to encourage motorists to reduce speed on roads like these,” said Ndoli.

He further noted that road accidents along the Musanze road are expected to go down once construction works to widen the highway are complete.
