On Saturday night, music fans were treated to a special performance by the contestants at the eviction show of the ongoing Primus Guma Guma Superstar competition held at the Expo grounds in Gikondo, Kigali.

Dr. Claude, Mani Martin and Faycal were the first contestants to be evicted.

Despite the eviction of the three artistes, each will receive Rwf2million, courtesy of beer and soft drinks manufacturer Bralirwa. 

"At the end of the PGGSS competition, there will only be one winner. Unfortunately, some great artistes in the competition will be eliminated. Nevertheless, they are favourite performers, like Faycal, Mani Martin and Dr. Claude,” Aline Asselots, the Marketing Manager of Bralirwa said.

King James, who received the biggest number of votes sang ‘Narashize’ backed by a Salsa dancing couple, had the audience blown away with his performance.  

Rafiki, too, wowed the audience with his song ‘Bagamba’ backed by his brisk crew. He showed his fans a different side of his musical talent and versatility.

Compared to the first live show, it was clear that all contestants were more confident performing live music as the show gets more competitive in the elimination phase.

Apparently, the remaining seven contestants will have to do more to win over fans for votes. It also means that a plain performance can lead to a contestant losing appeal among the voting fans.

Unlike the first show, Dream Boyz did a better job, while Urban Boyz who on the first attempt were faulted due to a technical glitch, thrilled the audience with their rendition of ‘Umwanzuro’.

"A competition is a competition, where only one person has to win. We are lucky that we’re still in the race and thank our fans for the support and we ask them to continue voting for us,” Urban Boyz ‘s James Manzi, alias Huddy said.

Riderman on the other hand pulled it off through his song ‘Umwana wi’muhanda’, which he powerfully did with his back up singers.

J-Polly, whose performance earned compliments all round, received a deafening applause. It leads to the conclusionthat Hip-hop artistes are more popular among the fans as their songs identify with the fans and yet reflect real life.

Despite the eviction, Dr. Claude, Faycal and Mani Martin put up spirited performances to the joy of the crowd.

As the MC Lion Imanzi made the closing remarks towards 11pm, one thing seemed clear; the show is getting hotter and hotter. But who will emerge the PGGSS winner?
