Panic engulfed La Palisse Hotel Nyandungu on Saturday when a man drowned in the hotel’s swimming pool.
Isata Sibowasonga, 32, a resident of Bibare, Kimironko Sector in Gasabo District died shortly after being rushed to the Kanombe Military Hospital.
He was an employee of TIGO’s call centre.
Police Spokesperson, Supt. Theos Badege, said that the cause of the incident is yet to be ascertained.
"The autopsy report has not yet been released, but the probable cause could have been a muscle pull which might have griped him while in the water,” Badege said.
However, Augustin Mucyezangabo, the hotel’s owner, yesterday, told The New Times that Sibowasonga may have been sick.
"It is possible he was sick because when they got him out of the water, he started vomiting blood,” Mucyezangabo explained. "Our employees rushed to save him when they realised he was drowning, and they rushed him to the hospital where he died.”
He added that the hotel will cover the burial expenses.
The deceased’s body is currently lying at Kacyiru Police Hospital pending further postmortem.
Badege urged swimming pools owners to put in place more safety measures.
