Final

Simba vs  Yanga 15:30 SS9

Tanzania’s archrivals Yanga and Simba face off in an epic clash in this year’s Cecafa Kagame Cup final, which will be played this afternoon at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam in-front  of over 60,000 fans.

Yanga have won the trophy three times while Simba, are the most successful club in the championship with six victories. A win for Simba will see them forge past Tusker in the list of winners.

The match will be a repeat of the epic 1975 and 1992 clashes between the two teams in the Cecafa club championship finals. In the 1975 encounter, Yanga emerged the winners beating Simba in the finals only to lose the 1992 finale.

The match will also pit two Ugandan coaches against each other as Yanga Coach Sam Timbe comes up against Moses Bassena.

"I am happy to have reached the finals only in my first attempt with Yanga and it will be a good match but very difficult for both sides. I only hope that other East African counties like Uganda and Kenya look at this derby as an example and see how Tanzanians love their own football,” said Timbe.

In the job for barely a couple of months, Bassena is having the time of his life.

"I am more than happy to have reached the finals as I have barely settled in my new team. This will be a top clash. I respect my colleague [Timbe] and I know the match will be entertaining but as a coach I will be going for a win to get some silverware for my club.”

The final will be preceded by the third place playoff match between St. George of Ethiopia El Mereikh of Sudan.
