At the site, students were given a guided tour around the site and briefed on the history of genocide at the former Murambi commune.
Over 12, 000 genocide victims are buried at the memorial site.
Marie Gorreth Uwambajimana, narrated to the students how she survived horrific killings at Kiziguro parish.
The students who spoke to The New Times said they drew many lessons after visiting the site.
"I was not yet born during the genocide but what I have seen and heard from survivors here is terrible. My advice is for the young generation to ensure that this never happens to our country again,” said Isaie Karegeya, a senior four student.
Celestin Saleh Habiyamberere, the school’s head teacher urged the students to desist from the genocide ideology.
Antoine Ngabonziza, the vice president of Ibuka, an umbrella organisation of genocide survivors in Gatsibo District stressed the importance of paying tribute to genocide victims.
