I wish to welcome the refugees who returned home from the Democratic Republic of Congo last week. First and foremost, there is no reason why Rwandans continue to stay in exile because the current leadership has restored peace and united all Rwandans.

Rwandans still in exile need to realise that the country today is very different from how they left it 17 years ago.

The return, last week, of 121 refugees formerly residing in DRC was an emotional occasion, as they were welcomed home by fellow Rwandans from the Ministry of Disaster Management and Refugee Affairs. The move follows the 261 refugees who had earlier last month returned from DRC and Cameroon.

This is a positive development and the returnees will play their part in the development of the country. Those who returned have been assisted and provided with land, shelter and now live a decent life with no refugee tag.
