Ngoma - The Kibungo-Zaza road will soon be refurbished, Ngoma Mayor, Francois Ntiyotwagira, disclosed while explaining development priorities in the district yesterday.
Most areas of the road become almost impassable especially during the rainy season.
Ntiyotwagira said that the 40 kilometre road network will receive the attention of the district as reflected in the 2011-2012 budget.
"It is our task to work on feeder roads so that farmers can transport their produce easily.
The road connects the agriculture rich villages, to the highways of Ngoma-Kigali and Nyamata-Kigali. It is thus so important to farmers and traders,” he said.
The Mayor added that the district will also work on town streets and beautify the main town of Kibungo.
"We shall revamp streets, pavements and road surfaces in Kibungo town.
We want to streamline infrastructure right from the towns to villages, to facilitate movement of goods and people.”
Boniface Ntirenganye, the Director of Planning in Eastern Province, reiterated the need to improve rural infrastructure to pave way for social economic activities.
"Roads are among our priorities...Kibungo road is among the earmarked ones. We however, call on residents to jealously guard the infrastructure already in place,” he said.
Eldafonse Havugiyije, 47, a businessman in Ngoma said the idea of road repair was timely.
"The road has many users... passengers and businesspersons would be happy to do their daily business all the year round. During the rainy season, we never certainly think of making it outside Zaza village,” he said.
