The New Times yesterday published a story indicating that 6,000 civil servants had declared their wealth with the Ombudsman’s office.

This is good news if our country is to continue on the right path in the fight against corruption and continue promoting a culture of transparency.

It is important for the Ombudsman’s office to carry out checks to verify whether the wealth declared is indeed true. In some countries officials under declare their possessions, which I suppose is not the case with Rwanda.

The Ombudsman has made Rwanda stand out as one of the countries with the strongest anti-corruption drives.

Also, it is important that strict measures are taken against civil servants found underdeclaring their wealth. We need to maintain high levels of transparency. Kudos to the Ombudsman
