The players in question include Abbas Rassou, who only managed a paltry five goals last season, Bebeto Lwamba, John Bosco Iwacu, Zambia’s Joseph Bwalya, Omar Hitimana, Didier Kapet and Amavubi captain Haruna Niyonzima, who is on the verge of joining Tanzanian champions Yanga.
According to the army side’s Secretary General Kalisa Adophe, the move is part of the club’s restructuring process ahead for next season.
"We want to make this team stronger and after careful scrutiny, the coach (Ernie Brandts) has decided to let some players leave,” Kalisa said.
"We thank them for their contribution to the club and wish them all the best.”
In a related development, some APR fans fear that the exodus may continue with Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza a.k.a Migi, Albert Ngabo, Jean Claude Ndoli, Jean Marie Vianney Rukundo, Eric Ndayishimiye alias Bakame, Malawi international Tchimanga Mutamba, Hegman Ngoma and Landry Logba all out of contract.
The military side won a record 12th league title last season and also lifted their 10th Peace Cup but it is in regional and continental competitions that they have failed to stump their dominance.
Despite huge investments over the years, the club has three Cecafa trophies and has yet to reach the group stage of Africa’s premier club competition ‘the Orange Champions League.’
