Popular local musician Tom Close Monday night had an album launch concert in Kigali that attracted fans and celebrities alike.

Famous names included Uganda’s Good Lyfe (Weasel and Radio) and Eddy Kenzo, as well as seasoned Burundian artiste Big Fizzo, who graced the event along side local artistes including Kamichi, Just Family, Uncle Austin, Pacson and Tuff Ganz, among others.

Charming Tom Close brought an excitement to Kigali, as he delivered a patriotic performance to unveil his third album dubbed ‘Ntibanyurwa.’ 

The singer belted out songs, such as ‘Mbwira yego’ and ‘Maama Wabana Bange.’

The talented 24-year-old singer- songwriter wore a short-sleeved white T-shirt and his favourite denim pairs of jeans for the concert.

The concert, which took place on July 4, gave Kigalians an opportunity to celebrate Rwanda’s 17th Liberation in style with a spectacular performance.

Tom Close, a student in the faculty of medicine at the National University of Rwanda (NUR), is also contestant in the ongoing Primus Guma Guma Superstar music competition.

However, although the concert was spectacular, some fans left the concert disappointed.

"I wonder why I even attended this concert in the first place because Tom Close performed only a few songs and I didn’t see some of my favourite local artistes on stage,” Claudine Uwera, 33, said.

Some local artistes, who were scheduled to perform, missed the chance to perform after arriving late at the venue.

"I arrived at the venue 30 minutes before my turn to perform, but I wonder why I was denied the chance to perform,” Riderman said.

He added: "I was totally disappointed for wasting my time and for disappointing my fans.

Otherwise, I’m glad that Tom Close’s album launch was great.”

Tom Close said:”I was disappointed too, because I didn’t perform all the songs I had prepared to perform to my fans because the security personnel stopped us.”

"But, I’m planning to meet all the local artistes who supported me and apologise to those who didn’t get a chance to perform,” he added.

Meanwhile, the singer revealed to The New Times that Ugandan artiste, Sizza Man deliberately switched off his telephone after he was paid to perform.

"Sizza Man switched his mobile phone on the day he was supposed to come to Rwanda for the concert,” Tom said.
