KACYIRU - The outgoing US ambassador to Rwanda, Stuart Symington, yesterday, commended the Rwanda National Police (RNP) for its commitment in executing its duties nationally and internationally.
Symington made the remarks while addressing senior police officers at the force’s premises in Kacyiru as he bade them farewell.
He lauded Rwanda and the force in particular for its peace-support operations, particularly in Haiti where the officers under the Formed Police Unit (FPU) provide humanitarian assistance under the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH).
"Even when it (providing peacekeepers) was hard, you managed to make it,” he said. "Protect the world and make it better by your example,”
He noted that he enjoyed working with Rwanda, especially in improving crime investigation skills.
The US, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), among others, sponsored the establishment of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).
MCC project supports the government in its efforts to promote civil rights and liberties by enhancing the quality and accountability of internal investigations within the police force.
They also supported the force’s Centre of Professional Excellence by providing office equipment and donating vehicles, motorcycles and computer equipment to the police.
