MUSANZE-Residents in Migeshi cell, Cyuve sector donated heifers to vulnerable families under the One cow per family programme, during an event to celebrate 17th Liberation Day, yesterday. 

Two heifers were brought to the ceremony, and handed over to beneficiaries, as sign of harmony, sharing and supporting one another to improve living standards.

Other residents who previously received cows under the will continue passing on calves to neighbours.  

‘’True liberation is about development; our welfare has drastically changed from abject poverty, isolation to a new dimension where we have health insurance, schools, we wear shoes and there is general cleanliness,” Faustin Mugemangago, 70, a retired primary school teacher said.

In his message, the district vice mayor, Jerome Mugenzi, urged the residents to work with a purpose of generating income and form cooperatives to rise out of poverty.

‘’The struggle for liberation still continues, everybody should join the war of fighting poverty. We want you to embrace the set goals by government as seen in the performance contracts, consolidate land and ensure sanitation,’’ Mugenzi said.

To the residents of Migeshi, a cell located between Muhabura and Sabyinyo mountains, liberation means an end to the insurgency and restoration of peace and security in the area.
