The local rugby governing body, RRF is targeting to join the CAR-9 in the next two years, newly elected RRF president Alexis Kamanzi has said.

Addressing the press at Cercle Sportif on Thursday, Kamanzi noted, amongst other issues said that the local federation was determined to steer Rwanda into a CAR-9 member.

Kamanzi together with his deputy Gerard Nsenga urged that Rwanda has the talent and potential to be a CAR-9 member but has in the past failed to achieve it due to a combination of factors including bad leadership.

Presently, Rwanda is playing under CAR’s Super-16 category. CAR is the Confederation of African Rugby, the continent’s rugby ruling body.

Tanzania and Burundi are some of the other nations in this category.

On the other hand, Morocco, Nigeria, Kenya and Uganda among others are some of the countries that make up the CAR-9 category.

Despite being a full member of CAR, Rwanda is still just an associate member of the International Rugby Board (IRB), the world’ rugby governing body and would need to first make CAR-9 before becoming IRB affiliates.
