Emmanuel Ruterana will start his quest for a second silverware in his golf professional career today when he takes part in the Ericsson Open golf tournament that unfolds in Kampala today.
The country’s sole professional golfer flew out of the country Wednesday afternoon and has since been stationed at Kitante golf club, the event’s venue, where he has been getting acclimatized to the course.
Ericsson Open is an annual event on the Uganda Golf Union calendar and has MTN Uganda has its key sponsors.
Like previous editions, the two-day event which is expected to attract golfers from the region is open to both amateurs and professionals.
The Ericsson event is part of his preparation for the highly rated Sunshine Tour that is scheduled for September in South Africa.
Since his elevation into the professional ranks back in February, the 25-year-old has competed in four tournaments; the Kenya Open, Uganda Open, Crane bank Open and Monitor Golf Open bagging US$1750 worth of prize money.
Ruterana had a three-week build-up to the event and believes he can add the tournament onto his career honors.
"I feel good and ready for the competition. I have had ample time to prepare and I’m sure I will do well,” he confidently said shortly before his departure.
Ruterana has been jointly sponsored by Rwanda Commercial Bank (BCR) and Rwandair Express. Ends
