NYANZA-Lawyers, under the auspices of the Kigali Bar Association, over the weekend visited Genocide survivors in Rwabicuma and Nyabisozi sectors of Nyanza District, and donated 10 exotic cows to them.

The cows are expected to improve the living conditions of the many needy survivors in the area, according to the Bar’s representatives.

Rwabicuma, which hosted the event, has 127 widows and 24 homeless families alone.

"This is one of the reasons why we thought of giving material assistance to survivors to improve their lives,” Athanase Rutabingwa, the association’s president, told The New Times. 

The lawyers also assured the survivors of free legal aid when need arises.

The District vice mayor in charge of social affairs, Appoline Kambayire, thanked the legal fraternity for the support, saying that it gives the beneficiaries hope for a brighter future.

"Their assistance is not only a good start for our needy survivors but also for the development of the entire sector,” she said, urging the beneficiaries to take good care of the donated livestock.

Kigali Bar Association will organise similar corporate events annually, Rutabingwa said.

The event was preceded by paying tribute to Genocide victims who were members of the Bar.
