A day in the life

Fidèle Gakire is a journalist working with Ishema newspaper, one of the local Kinyarwanda papers. He says that his daily activities keep him so much in the field than in the office. Below is how he goes about his daily activities;

I wake up at around 7a.m and say a prayer. Then I check on different media links before taking a shower. By the time I leave home at around 8, I have an idea of what I have to do for that particular day.

At 8:30, I attend the editorial meeting. This meeting decides what I have to do. I may either go to the field for investigative stories, press conferences or events.

There is time when I get back after 1p.m, especially when covering event related stories. As for lunch, I do not have a specific time but I have it after mid-day.

By 3p.m, latest, I must have submitted in my story. At around 4p.m, I am out of office. I go for other personal issues.

I normally get home at around 7p.m. I then listen to the evening news or even music until 9p.m when I have supper. I normally get to bed after 10.
