Following a move by the City of Kigali to allocate a piece of land currently occupied by Muhima Technical School (ETO Muhima) to developers, the school will share premises with Kicukiro College of Technology (KCT) in Kicukiro District.

Bruno Rangira, the Director of Communication and Media in the city disclosed this yesterday in a telephone interview with The New Times.

"The school (ETO Muhima) will relocate in August to pave way for developers to start their investment process,” Rangira disclosed.

Francois Gahama Sibomana, the Director of ETO Muhima, said they are currently constructing the school blocks in Kicukiro.

"We will relocate as soon as the construction work is complete,” Gahama said.

He explained the two schools will be independent, despite being in the same vicinity.

ETO Muhima, which was established in September 1995 to provide technical skills to the youth, currently has a student population of 460.

The 3.24 hectare prime land in Nyarugenge District was acquired by CHIC Investment Group at a cost of Rwf 1.5 billion.

CHIC is made up mainly by business persons within Kigali's main trading centre commonly known as Quartier Matheus.

It intends to construct three commercial complexes valued at over Rwf 25 billion.

Tharcisse Ngabonziza, the president of CHIC Investment Group, said yesterday that they are formalising a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the city to fully own the land and ease their investment process.

"We are now in the final stages of the MoU. We are prepared to start the construction anytime the MoU is complete,” Ngabonziza said.

He added that they are currently carrying out a study on the land to assess the kind of materials to be used in the course of the construction. Ngabonziza said that they have so far paid over 30 percent of the total amount.
