Editor, The recent move by the Special Referral Chamber of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) to have Jean Uwinkindi, a former pastor at the Pentecostal Church of Kayenzi, in Nyamata sector, Bugesera District be tried in Rwanda is a positive development. It is only logical that suspects are tried in the very country where they committed their heinous crimes.

The recent move by the Special Referral Chamber of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) to have Jean Uwinkindi, a former pastor at the Pentecostal Church of Kayenzi, in Nyamata sector, Bugesera District be tried in Rwanda is a positive development. It is only logical that suspects are tried in the very country where they committed their heinous crimes.
The move speaks volumesabout our judicial system. Justice in Rwanda has evolved since the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi and I believe Uwinkindi will get a fair trail. The people of Rwanda hope that the ICTR will transfer more cases to Rwanda.
Once the cases are transferred, the legal process against Genocide suspects will be less costly as there will be no need to transport witnesses from Kigali to Arusha to testify against the suspects.
