Kizito Mihigo, a renowned Rwandan artiste based in Belgium, has released a song for the 17th Liberation Day of Rwanda.

The single, dubbed ‘Urugamba rwo kwibohora’ is expected to be performed to thousands of Rwandans during the July 4 Liberation Day celebrations in Kigali.

In an interview, the singer told The New Times that the song was a continuation of his amazing ‘Twanze Gutoberwa Amateka,’ hit, which he specially churned out for the 17th commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi.

"The song explains the role of Rwandans in liberating the country,” Kizito said. "Rwanda was not only liberated through guns, but also by gradually changing people’s mindsets to join hands in the struggle to rebuild and develop the country.”

The song features local artistes; Dieudonnée Munyanshoza, famously known for his song   ‘Mibirizi’, Tonzi, Miss Jojo, Kitoko, Massamba and Sgt Robert.

However, the star said that the message in his ‘Twanze gutoberwa amateka’ song has particularly earned his negative criticism from some members of the public who accuse him to deviating from his original Christian music.

"I have started encountering criticisms from some people who think that I have stopped churning out church songs and turned to politics,” Kizito said.

But Mihigo disagrees with that opinion. "Singing about social issues or about the history of my country doesn’t mean I have become a politician. I am not a politician, I am just an artiste.”
