Members of the Rwandan Diaspora in Switzerland held a General Assembly over the weekend, in which they voted in a new steering committee.

The elections, held in Lausanne, South East of Switzerland saw Louis de Gonzague Munyanzogeye elected as president and Jacqueline Karekezi, the deputy.

Others elected include Jean Claude Mbarushimana treasurer ,while Marie Louise Wibabara was selected as secretary. 

According to the current statute and rules of the Rwandan Diaspora in Switzerland, members of the Steering Committee have a two year mandate.

Before elections, the vice-president of the outgoing committee highlighted their achievements, including the active participation in the One Dollar Campaign Project, in which, the Diaspora in Switzerland emerged third in terms of resource mobilisation.

In a statement, Munyanzogeye, the new president, promised that his committee would continue the implementation of several activities and projects initiated by the outgoing committee.

These, he said, include mobilisation of resources for the "Bye Bye Nyakatsi" campaign and the consolidation of a more united Rwandan community committed to serve their country.

Speaking at the event, the first chancellor at the Rwandan Embassy in Switzerland, Alphonse Kayitare thanked the outgoing committee members chaired by Dr. Paul R Rwakabayiza for their cooperation with the embassy.

The Rwandan Diaspora in Switzerland is made up of 1,000 members living in different cities including Geneva, Fribourg, Lausanne, Zurich, Neuchatel, Sion and Basle.
