Seven clubs have entered this year’s National Heroes basketball tournament that gets underway off this morning at Amahoro indoor stadium courts.

The club entry list for the two-day tournament includes the tournament’s defending champions APR, National league champions Marines, Espoir, CSK A, National University of Rwanda (NUR), Kigali Institute of Education (KIE) and Basketball United Generation (BUG). By press time, Rusizi Basketball Club was yet to confirm their participation.

"Seven clubs have confirmed their participation with only Rusizi yet to confirm,” said an official of the local basketball governing body, Ferwaba.

At the end of the two-day tournament, the top four clubs will progress into the international edition next weekend. The international edition is expected to attract clubs from DR. Congo, Burundi, Uganda and Kenya.

Heroes’ tournament is an annual event on the Rwanda basketball federation (Ferwaba) calendar that is held to honor Rwandans who lost their lives in the struggle to liberate the country.
