Etincelles got off to a bad start after losing their opening tie 2-3 to Ocean Boys of Zanzibar yesterday of the 2011 Cecafa/Kagame club championship. The match was played in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

OceanBoys got the first goal through their captain Sabrri Ramadhani on the 24th minute. Etincelles’s Claver Muhire equalized 12 minutes later.

Ramadhani put the Zanzibar side again for the second time on 62nd minute. But once again, as was the case in the first half, the Rwandan side equalized moments later through their own captain Victorie Manirakiza.

However, it was Ocean Boys who had the last smile when substitute Amour Suleiman made sure the ‘home’ team got all three points netting the winner five minutes from time.

In the other Group A match, Simba of Tanzania was held to a goalless draw by Vital O of Burundi.

Ocean Boys top Group A with 3 points and are followed by Simba and Vital O with 1 point respectively, while Etincelles are bottom with no point.

Meanwhile, holders APR start the defence of their title this afternoon against Ports of Djibouti. The Rwandan club, seeking to win a fourth regional club title will start the game as overwhelming favourites.

In the day’s other game, home Tanzanian champions Yanga Africans will take on El-Mereikh of Sudan in what is expected to a hotly contested encounter between two very good teams.

However, it remains to be seen whether Yanga’s coach Sam Timbe would hand his news signing Haruna Niyonzima his debut. The Rwandan international midfielder joined the Dar es Salaam club just four days ago after spending four years with APR.
