National league champions APR Fc have refuted reports that they have plans to sign Ugandan goalkeeper Abbey Dhaira from Uganda’s Super league football club Express Fc.

According to Uganda’s Daily Monitor, Express team manager, Mohammed Kateregga was quoted saying that scouts from APR and Burundi’s Vital’ O sounded out interest in Dhaira after the goalkeeper’s outstanding performance against Burundi’s Inter Stars in their Caf Confederation Cup tie last weekend in Bujumbura.

When contacted yesterday, Kateregga said, "I was contacted by APR and Vital’O officials personally after our game with Inter Stars,” Kateregga said, adding that these officials were always keeping a keen eye on him and following his progress.

"And we have been contacted on several occasions by the same officials but simply Dhaira is not for sale. He is still young and will be better player if he is not disturbed at his age,” Kateregga told Times Sport by telephone from the Ugandan capital Kampala.

But APR team manager Capt. Eric Ntazinda has ruled out the club’s interest in acquiring services of Ugandan born teenager.

"These are just mere speculations because we have not held any talks with either Dhaira or Express,” Ntazinda said.

The shot stopper is focused at his job at Express and has since prioritized his career with Express even though his contract with the Red Eagles expires at the end of the current season.
