Rwanda’s second seed Jean Claude Gasigwa stormed the semi finals of the Kenya commercial bank Open tennis tournament at Nairobi club yesterday morning.

Gasigwa defeated fifth seed Gilbert Kibet 6/3 6/3 to book today’s semi-final clash against fourth seed Francis Rogoi of Kenya. Rogoi eliminated fellow Kenyan and sixth seed in the other quarter-final clash.

Gasigwa, 24 registered a bright start in both the first and second round matches of the lucrative event. He eliminated Kenya’s Derrick Onyacha 6/0 6/2 in the first round before a walkover to the quarter final stage against Derrick Owino in the second round.

"It is not been easy reaching this stage but I must confidently eliminate Rogoi tomorrow (today) if I’m going to win any cash prize from this event,” Gasigwa told Times Sport by telephone from Nairobi.

Top seed Allan Cooper of Kenya reached the semi-final after eliminating Uganda’s James Odong 6/2 6/1 in the KCB Open quarters.

The 29-year-old former Kenya junior champion will face the Zimbabwe’s Martin Dzuwa in today’s other semi final classic clash. Dzuwa defeated Peter Namande 5/7 6/3 6/3 in yesterday’s quarter final tie.

In the doubles’, Gasigwa pairing with Uganda’s James Odong eliminated Peter Mbanga who paired with Japan’s Kipki Nakamura on 6/1 6/2. Other results in the doubles category could not be available by press time.

Gasigwa admits that only one player, Allan Cooper, the top seed stands in his chances of winning the lucrative event.
The five day event has attracted over 150 players from Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Nigeria and Ethiopia.

The tournament ends today and the winner in the men’s category will walk away with KSh68, 000, while KSh58, 000 will be up for grabs in the winner in the girls’ ladies category.
