KIMIHURURA-Employees from the National Electoral Commission (NEC) have received training in various techniques in the fight and prevention of HIV/Aids.

The one-day seminar which took place yesterday at NEC offices, was organised by NEC in partnership with National Aids Control Commission (NACC).

"Fighting HIV/Aids is a cross-cutting issue which needs everyone’s attention and concern, so it’s in this regard that NEC management organised this seminar in order to fight the Aids scourge within our institution and even in the communities where we live,” Justus Iyamuremye, the Human Resource Manager of NEC, who was among the trainees said.

He added that training their employees on the fight against HIV/Aids is among the activities in their action plans this year.

Speaking to the trainees, Jacques Gakungu, capacity building officer at NACC urged them to abstain from sex and use condoms if they are unable to do so.

"HIV/Aids is one of the factors which hinders any development in the world, so I call upon you to fight it beginning from your respective homes and beyond” Gakungu said.

He requested them to teach their children about the dangers of early sexual intercourse saying that the youth are the most vulnerable  to HIV/Aids in the country.

Gakungu encouraged participants to go for voluntary HIV/Aids testing to know their health status.
