I would like to call upon Rwandans, tourists and foreigners, to take time off their daily schedules and attend the Handcraft Excellence Award Competition Expo which began Tuesday this week at Petit Stade in Remera, Kigali.

Rwanda’s handicrafts are renowned globally for their uniqueness and outstanding quality.  You can own one of the unique artifacts while simultaneously supporting our local artisans.

They are not the richest people in the world, but they make some of the most creative, handmade crafts in the world. Agaseke, one of the hand-woven products from Rwanda has gained international acclaim.

Other jewelry products such as necklaces, bangles, bracelets and earrings are gaining popularity among many across the globe.

Rwanda’s traditional handicrafts are rooted in the country’s rich traditional culture and strongly reflect the originality of our ancestors, the reason everyone should own one as a souvenir.

I commend the organisers of the expo and the competition for recognizing the efforts of the men and women who strive to keep our traditions alive everyday.
