RWANDA’s two representatives at the 2011 Cecafa Kagame club championship leave the country this afternoon for the week tournament. The tournament will be held in Tanzania.
Champions APR open the defense of their title against Ports of Djibouti on Sunday in Morogoro, while debutants Etincelles kick off against Ocean Boys of Zanzibar on the opening day tomorrow.
APR that has already sealed a double of league and Peace cup will be looking for a repeat of last season when they won a treble, which included the Kagame cup.
A total of 12 teams from Uganda, Kenya, Somalia, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, Djibouti and Zanzibar will compete in the two-week event that will be jointly held in Dar-es-Salaam and Morogoro.
The teams are divided in three groups: Group A has Tanzania’s Simba, Vital’O of Burundi, Etincelles and Ocean Boys.
Group B has Yanga of Tanzania, Sudan’s El-Mereikh, Ugandan champions Bunamwaya and Somalia’s El Man make up Group B while Group C pits APR against Ethiopia’s St. George, Kenya’s Ulinzi and Ports of Djibouti.
On top of President Kagame’s annual sponsorship package of ($60,000), Tanzania Breweries Limited through their Castle Lager brand, have injected $100, 000 in the tournament.
