A group of over 90 officials from the 30 districts in the country yesterday completed a two-day seminar in fighting cases related to corruption and injustice in their respective working stations.
The training, which took place in Gasabo District, was organised by the Office of the Ombudsman.
The trainees included officials from public property management, directors of finance and administration, procurement and logistics officers and other staff in charge of good governance.
"This workshop has equipped us with a variety of mechanisms and skills on how to avoid cases of corruption and I am optimistic this will promote transparency in all we do,” said one of the trainees, Gerard Dushimimana, from Karongi District.
David Mugabo from Musanze said: "Most districts have been facing cases of corruption, especially in the tender processes, and I believe that the knowledge gained here will help us improve”.
Dushimimana requested the Office of the Ombudsman to organise similar seminars to benefit other public servants in the country.
Addressing the trainees, the Deputy Ombudsman in charge of preventing and fighting injustice, Bernadette Kanzayire, urged the trainees to be honest in their daily activities.
"I encourage you to promote good governance in your respective attributions because it’s the key to sustainable development and we can’t achieve it when we still have cases of corruption and injustice in the country,” Kanzayire said..
She vowed that her office would continue to prevent and fight corruption in public procurement by carrying out operational audits, studies on the status of corruption in the country, especially in public procurement, and receiving and verifying declaration of assets, among others.
