At least 19 suspected robbers were rounded up in separate security operations in Rubavu yesterday.

A Police statement says six of the suspects being held at Gisenyi Police Station, were allegedly caught breaking into a shop whose owner is identified as Emmanuel Iyamuremye.

"Police recovered 14 mobile phones, an electronic iron box, torches among other items from the shop,” reads the statement.

Police warned those still at large that investigations have been launched.

"Those that we arrested are making statements pending formal charges in court. We are still carrying out more operations to arrest those that are still elusive.”

The operation that was carried out in Rugerero sector will be extended to other sectors of the district to get rid of suspected criminals.

The police said that Gisenyi sector has many idlers suspected to be involved in criminal activities.
