GASABO - She never expected triplets as she walked into Kibagabaga Hospital last Sunday, but she knew she was carrying twins. Chantal Nyirahabimana 32, an unemployed mother of three, and resident of Gikomero Sector, Gasabo District, is now recuperating at Kibagabaga District Hospital after successfully giving birth to three bouncing baby boys.

Married to Theogene Murindabyuma, 34, Nyirahabimana is not sure how she will feed the babies since her husband is also unemployed, but nevertheless she thanks God for the blessing.

"Though I am poor, I thank God for the kids. I believe they are a blessing,” Nyirahabimana told The New Times from her hospital bed. She previously had three daughters.

The Director of Kibagabaga Hospital, Dr. Christian Ntizimira, said that the hospital decided to meet all medical expenses and her care while in hospital and also approached Gasabo District authorities to continue supporting the family.

"I talked to the vice mayor in charge of social affairs and she promised to send someone to see her and she will also get a small package to support her,” Ntizimira said.

On her part, Nyirahabimana could not be thankful enough to the hospital but she said she was worried about the future.

"I would like to thank the hospital administration for their support and care. I would also like to kindly ask the government or anyone who can support me to raise the babies, because I already have other young children to cater for,” Nyirahabimana said.

Particularly, she believes a cow to provide milk would be helpful and that’s all she needs because she can work for the rest.

According to the Rose Umbaye, the midwife who is taking care of Nyirahabimana, both kids and mum are in good shape with no complications during birth.

"The first baby weighed 2.3kgs, the second 2kgs and the last one 1.9kgs. As a hospital we are proud that the births went on without a hitch,” she said.
