Three arrested over graft

KIMIHURURA - Three people are detained at Remera Police Station, over corruption allegations.

The suspects include an engineer and a local official from Rugando, in Kimihurura Sector, who demanded a bribe from a resident whose house they promised to spare from demolition despite being in contravention of the Kigali City Master Plan.

According to police, the local official along with the engineer were arrested on June 16 receiving a Rwf 150,000 bribe.

The third suspect, who lives in Nyamabuye, Gatsata Sector, also attempted to corrupt a local leader with Rwf 40,000, to construct a house in violation of the law.

He was apprehended on June 18, with assistance of the local official who declined the bribe. 

The trio was arraigned before court yesterday for the mention of their case Police Spokesperson, Theos Badege thanked people who collaborated with security forces to apprehend the culprits.

"This should be everyone’s responsibility to ensure that this vice is uprooted once and for all,” Badege said..
