HUYE- Enthusiasm is the word that can best describe how Yvonne Mukayuhi felt after being crowned 2011 Miss of Values ENDP Karubanda, last Saturday.

A colourful event attended by students, parents and Huye residents, saw Mukayuhi declared the winner of the beauty pageant.

The 20-year-old Senior Five student at ENDP Karubanda beat six finalists in a tight competition to win the title.

"It’s good, really good! Each contestant wished to win the competition but the chance has come to me. I tried my best during the whole process to overcome fear above all,” the excited Mukayuhi said.

The beauty promised: "I will be a role model, in order to inspire others, and voice the problems and concerns of the students to the school’s administration.”

Gisele Umuhoza Karuranga and Beatrice Murekatete emerged first and second runner-ups respectively.

Sister Gorette Mukarubayiza, the Headmistress of ENDP Karubanda, told The New Times that the idea to organise ‘Miss of Values’ beauty contest was initiated in 2009, when the school was preparing to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

"Miss of Values is a female student, whose conduct and behaviour can inspire others and portray the values of the school,” Mukarubayiza said.

She added: "She must be intelligent, disciplined, innovative and able to be a good leader,” the Headmistress noted.

MP Athanasie Gahindogo, who was the chief guest urged the ‘Misses’ to portray the values of the school and inspire other students.

He  petitioned other schools in the country to recognise students who live an exemplary life as a way of encouraging the quest of excellence among others.

"It is a good initiative which can help prepare the youth to be competitive, inventive and excellent which is important for a bright future for this country”, Gahondogo observed.
