A combination of nervousness, indecisive defending and lack of composure in front of goal were the Junior Wasps’ major undoing in last night’s 2-0 defeat against England.

The young lions showed why they are dubbed group C favourites from the first whistle. They dominated possession and kept Rwanda’s defenders on their toes throughout the whole game.

In particular, Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling caused most havoc on the left wing causing Rwanda’s right back Michel Rusheshangoga all sorts of problems.

While Richard Tardy’s boys managed to hold onto a goalless draw at half time, the score line could have been worse as England were denied by the woodwork on three occasions.

On the 68th minute, England’s domination finally paid off when Hallam Hope shoved off Heritier Turatsinze before rounding off Rwanda’s goalkeeper Marcel Nzarora. The goal came seconds after Rwanda’s Bonfils Kabanda fired a wicked shot off the crossbar from the edge of the area.
Sterling then added a second in the dying minutes with a curling shot. The game was held at Estadio Hidalgo in Pachuca.

Rwanda must now regroup when they play Uruguay on Wednesday. England face Canada on the same day.
