All roads, last Saturday, led to Kinigi, Musanze in the Northern Province for the 7th annual gorilla naming ceremony.

Thousands of residents, top government officials, invited guests, foreign dignitaries and conservationists were treated to an unfaltering rendition as 22 baby gorillas were named in the annual Kwita Izina ceremony.

Uganda’s dancehall and reggae king Bebe Cool, whose songs are popular in the country and commands a big following, thrilled the crowd with a commanding act.

The Governor of the Northern Province, Aime Bosenibamwe, could not resist the urge to showcase his skills on the dance floor as the renowned Ugandan musician took to the VIP tent.

Cool sang along with the crowd his famous hits, ‘Fire Anthem’, and ‘Kasepiki’ and, at one point, was joined on stage by a white lady who sang along the ‘Bogoola ko’ track.

In a good gesture, Bebe Cool picked a young boy named Patrice from the crowd and passed on his designer leather belt, label sunglasses and US$100 to him.

Miss Jojo also hummed the crowd with a live band performance backed by her dancers. Rafiki Mazimpaka, aka Coga Style, however, proved to be quite popular with the residents of the Northern Province as he hails from that part of the country.

Dream Boyz and Kitoko also put up a spirited performance. Traditional dance troupe Inganzo Ngali also delighted the crowd with a creative traditional dance act.
