KIGALI - Over 120 female youth from around the country will be enrolling for a capacity building training programme organised by Lions Club, Kigali Doyen.

This was disclosed, yesterday, during the launch of the project at Guides I Gikondo.

Maxime Rwendeye, the GBV/HIV AID Programs Manager for UN Women, said that one of their major roles is helping to empower and build women.

"UN Women has come in to offer support to Lions club to fulfil this initiative that has began today because we want to strengthen capacity of the female youth, see them employed and having successful careers,” said Rwendeye.

The UN Women representative noted that this initiative will enable the youth to develop, and be eligible in the labour market since they will be equipped with knowledge and skills through the training.

Jean Berchmans Habinshuti, the Deputy Secretary of Lions Club, stated that the training will entail lessons on entrepreneurship, how to write Curriculum Vitaes,, having successful job interviews and careers.

"Most people are denied jobs because of lack of experience and skills. Some can’t even write a proper application letter or CV. We want to help the youth in these areas, get them internship placements,” added Habinshuti.

Robert Muganga, head of protocol in Lions Club, said that this initiative will be giving an opportunity to unemployed female youth; 60 from Kigali, 30 from Huye and 30 from Byumba. He said that they intend to give the chance to youth from other districts after the first training.

One of the beneficiaries, Josephine Nyirakananu conveyed her gratitude to Lions Club and UN Women for such a great initiative that is going to empower her and the other youth career wise.
