Today, the national Under-17 football team, the Junior Wasps, will take on England in their first match in the ongoing World Cup championship in Mexico.  They will also face Uruguay and Canada later in the week.

The team’s journey to Mexico has captivated the nation and inspired support from Rwandans of all walks.

The support that was demonstrated as the team competed for a slot in the World Cup finals was truly inspiring. It also, yet again, demonstrated the unity of purpose Rwandans exhibit in the national interest.

As the tournament takes off, it is important that the nation again unites behind the team and shows moral support. In far away Mexico, the young footballers will need to know that back home they have overwhelming support.

In Mexico, they carry the national flag and are the ambassadors of the nation on the world stage. Qualifying for the World Cup finals was an achievement in itself, shining in Mexico will be a greater accomplishment.

In the team, Rwandans have invested hope and the Junior Amavubi have what it takes to make Rwandans proud.
