Editor,

The initiative to promote cultural tourism is a welcome move. As a keen follower of African culture, I must say Rwanda boasts one of the richest cultures and history. There is no doubt that tourists who choose to revisit Rwanda’s rich history will have value for their money.

It is important to note that, African culture has fallen victim of modernity and it is imperative for us to revitalise it.

Rwanda’s cultural sites have many lessons to offer not only to tourists but also young Rwandans and the African generation that needs to learn about culture. Therefore, preserving our rich heritage is essential.

It is even more important because our cultural and heritage sites will now generate revenue for our economy.

In this era of social networking, websites such as Facebook and Twitter can be used to export Rwanda’s rich culture to the rest of the world.

I urge everyone to find time and visit one of these cultural sites. We should not look at cultural tourism as something that only benefits foreign tourists. We need to know a thing or two about our past.
