Rwanda v Congo Brazzaville

Rwanda’s U-20 team will play Congo Brazzaville in the first build up game ahead of the17th edition of the African youth championships due in Kigali next year.

This game is aimed at helping Coach Tomislav Obradovic select a capable squad for the African championship.

According to Ferwafa’s Chief Executive Officer Jules Kalisa, Rwanda will host Congo Brazzaville on March 23.

The youth team which is currently holding its training sessions at Nyamirambo stadium thrice a week is being handled by Tomislav, Eric Nshimiyimana, Yves Rwasamanzi and Claude Ishimwe.

"We have a good team and every player is aiming at beating the team’s vision of winning the title," Nshimiyimana said.

After the Congo Brazzaville game, the team is expected to head to either Germany or Japan in April to enhance their training.

The winner of the African youth championship will automatically qualify to the finals of the 2009 Youth World Cup due in Cairo, Egypt.

Rwanda bowed out of the last year’s African championships in the preliminary qualifications after losing to Nigeria 0-6 on goal aggregates. Rwanda had defeated Kenya 2-0 on goal aggregates.

Congo Brazzaville won last year’s title which was held on its home soil after overcoming Nigeria 1-0 in the final game.
