KIGALI - A group of 31 employees from the National Electoral Commission (NEC) completed a week-long training on improving electoral laws and procedures in the country.

The seminar, which took place in Kigali, was funded by the UNDP in collaboration with Millennium Challenge Cooperation (MCC) through the International Foundation for Election Systems.

The workshop was facilitated by Building Resources in Democracy, Governance and Elections (BRIDGE), a program aimed at promoting democracy and good governance around the world.

"This training is very useful because it has given us more skills and knowledge to improve how we have been managing electoral processes in the country,” said Vianney Ngarambe, who spoke on behalf of the trainees.

He requested the commission to organise similar training programs frequently.

"I am optimistic that the skills gained here will help us overcome the challenges and weaknesses we have been facing in our respective duties and to take the institution to another level in terms of administration,” said Justus Iyamuremye, another trainee.   

The Executive Secretary of NEC, Charles Munyaneza, advised the trainees to be professional in their duties, saying the course was meant to improve the capacity of the institution.
