Rwanda has been selected to host the Third Annual African e-Government Forum scheduled to take place between 14-16 April, next year.

This was announced by Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, the Chief Executive Officer of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation, at the opening of the Second Annual African E –Government Forum at the Serena Hotel in Kampala, Uganda.

He said that Rwanda was chosen because the government had taken the lead in ICT development.

"The Rwanda Government has been an active member of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation though it is not a member of the Commonwealth. For instance it has ICT implementation agencies such as Rwanda Information and Telecommunication Agency (RITA) contrary to most countries which leave the work to the ministries in charge of ICT, yet these ministries in most cases tend to concentrate on creating policies not implementation," Ekwow observed.

The forum aims at developing ICT infrastructure among member countries.

The Kampala forum is being attended by several officials including ministers from African countries, heads of ICT regulatory and e-governance implementation agencies, and representatives from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), African Development Bank (AfDB), Nokia and Motorola.
