Gicumbi- The visiting African Commonwealth parliamentary body, Wednesday, inspected various development projects established by residents in the region.

The delegation acknowledged the development strides the residents have registered, attributing this to various government efforts.

In Kageyo Sector, the delegation visited Francois Mugiraneza, a modern wheat and cattle farmer, whose investment has greatly impacted on residents in the area. He employs over 30 people.

The delegation also visited a milk collection centre which has transformed the lives of over 2,000 livestock farmers. Most of its suppliers are beneficiaries of Girinka program.

The residents testified how they used their little start up capital to establish and run profitable businesses.

In an interview, Prince Kennedy Midiashatu, from South Africa, observed that a lot has been achieved in Rwanda, especially in rural areas.

"I’m impressed by what the rural people have achieved in just few years after the 1994 genocide; this is incredible.  This shows how zealous people are and their commitment to make their country better,” he said.

The objective of their tour, the officials said, was to assess and identify key areas of possible interventions that the commonwealth can undertake in its assistance to the people of Rwanda.
